Grady Wright nodded decisively in response.
His young face was etched with resolve, as if assuring Flossie Wright that he certainly would not lie.
As she looked at him despondently, Flossie suddenly asked, "Have you ever been in my room?"
A tinge of guilt crossed Grady Wright’s face, his eyes beginning to dart back and forth. However, amidst his confusion and hesitation, he eventually settled on honesty, nodding his head and saying, "Yes, I have been there."
Having heard his admission, Flossie seemed to have accounted for this in her own mind. She showed no great reaction, but lightly continued to probe, "What for?"
"Er..." Grady’s hesitation intensified. He cautiously looked up at Flossie’s dark, cold eyes, and all his doubts suddenly vanished. He decisively spoke up, "I had never been there before, but...but a few days ago... Mother asked me to put away a book, and... I accidentally put it in your room."
With his words, the mystery unfolded.
Flossie and Glenn Hutchinson exchanged a glance, their expressions confirming their beliefs.
Given Grady Wright’s present state, there was a very slim chance that he was lying. His words fit precisely with Flossie’s suspicion. If no other anomalies arose, Merry Otiz most certainly had involvement in this matter, making her the most suitable person to confront about it.
Grady, who had told them everything, felt increasingly anxious as they exchanged glances. Pressing himself firmly against the slightly chilly wall, he sensed a wave of coldness enveloping him from behind. A sense of fear began to permeate his heart, making him feel as if he could disappear at any moment.
In what felt like mere minutes, he regretted countless times ever loitering outside Flossie’s door. He even started thinking despairingly that if he could escape from this place, he would never step foot in Flossie’s room ever again.
It was absolutely horrifying.
"You can leave now."
After a cursory glance at him, Flossie didn’t show any intention of detaining him further. In fact, she paid little attention to him.
Upon hearing Flossie’s casual statement, Grady felt as if he’d been released from a death sentence. His eyes, full of tension and fear, blinked in uncertainty. Then, they lit up brilliantly. He carefully moved towards the door, pushing it tentatively until it was just wide enough for him to pass through. His heart seemed to be dangling in mid-air as he anxiously glanced at Flossie and Glenn Hutchinson a few times. At last, like a gust of wind, he dashed out and ran away as fast as possible.
For a while, all that could be heard in the room were the urgent and tense footsteps echoing in the hallway, sounding exceptionally loud.
Flossie glanced idly at the half-open door, in no rush to shut it. Instead, she stood in place carelessly until she heard the faint sound of approaching footsteps.
"Knock. Knock."
The door was rapped twice and a familiar servant appeared at the entrance. She looked at the two standing inside the room with great politeness, her eyes unable to hide her astonishment.
"Miss, it’s dinnertime. The master wants you to come down," the servant said gently, even though the corner of her eye was constantly flitting in Glenn Hutchinson’s direction, as if wishing she could grow eyes to affix onto him.
"Understood."

Flossie replied indifferently. A single cold glance from her had startled the servant enough for her to retract her gaze. She glanced at Flossie a few more times in a panicked manner, and like those who have guilty consciences, she eventually turned and fled.
However, Flossie, who merely wanted to remind her to be mindful through a glance, couldn’t help but find her hasty retreat somewhat baffling.
