"What’s the point of calling the police, aren’t the military and the police in cahoots? Won’t the police just aid the military?!"
The fish seller was shouting so desperately that he almost seemed eager to interfere immediately. If his words hadn’t already frightened the vegetable vendor enough to stop him in his tracks, the uncle might well have snatched the phone directly from his hands.
The vegetable vendor glanced at Flossie a few times guiltily before meekly laying down his phone.
Being vegetable vendors for a living, they were not allowed to set their stall outside the Vegetable Market. To get a stall inside the market, you needed connections and money. This market was privately owned and if they offended the market owners, they would have no place to do their business.
"And what do you propose we do?"
Flossie enquired, her eyebrows raising in a somewhat nagging stance, with an air of seeming resigned in the face of an untenable situation.
Upon hearing her words the fish seller naturally assumed Flossie had given in. His face turned smug, but sensing something amiss, he gave Flossie a few appraising glances, unable to hide his amazement at her beauty.
The fish seller’s wife, seeing her husband’s reaction, knew something was wrong. After cursing Flossie silently in her mind, she scrambled back up to her feet, hastily and without bothering to brush off the dirt that covered her, she blocked Flossie’s way again.
"If you don’t want trouble, you’ll have to buy all the fish here today!" The fish seller’s wife stated defiantly, rolling up her sleeves and smirking at the others who were left flabbergasted.
The market was just starting to set up and there weren’t many housewives there to buy vegetables yet. But for the few who were present, seeing this spectacle got their blood boiling. They had seen shameless people, but never those who had thrown their dignity to the wind so thoroughly. This was an utter disgrace among the general public. It made them want to slap the woman and put an end to her shamelessness!
"Wow, have you no shame?"
"I’ve been buying vegetables for years, but I’ve never seen such blatant forceful selling!"
"Damn it, if you’re out of money, go rob a bank. Why are you bullying a soldier? Do you think this young lady is easy to bully?"
"Truly, I’ve seen everything now. Boss lady, you’re in the wrong here. If the soldier really does end up buying your goods, not only will the police deal with you according to law, even the Forces might have a problem with you. It would be better for you to just let things go."
Voices of those standing up for justice erupt, each word falling on Flossie’s ears, causing her previously clenched fists to relax slightly.
"What are you all shouting about? What are you all shouting about?"
The furious roar suddenly drowned out all other noises. The fish seller’s wife stood with her hands on her hips and glared angrily at the onlookers, all but spewing fire from her eyes. She had no awareness of any wrongdoing on her part, and her arrogance only increased.
"Do you know who we are? This Market is run by our people!" The fish seller’s wife declared boldly, making it abundantly clear that she didn’t care about anyone’s opinion, "Here, we are the law! What’s a soldier got to do with it? They’re the ones we raise. If she doesn’t buy all these fish today, this matter is far from over!"
With a collective gasp, the housewives standing by were almost blown away by the sheer audacity of the woman’s proclamation! This woman’s shameless behavior was truly beyond belief!
"Young soldier, listen to us, don’t buy from her. When they make a scene, we will be your witness!"
"Ah——"

Just as the righteous woman finished shouting, a heart-wrenching scream echoed through the market from the fish seller’s wife. The previously noisy space went silent in an instant.
