He was like a gambler who had gotten addicted, and the money in people’s eyes was his joy of winning in front of Flossie Wright. Every time he lost, he felt unwilling and disgruntled, which made him want to start over and over again.
Nevertheless, it was undeniable that he would learn from each time he lost and exceedingly progress in each contest.
The current training did not teach these tactical skills, so he had always visibly exposed himself in these ’real fights.’ However, it wouldn’t be so easy to deal with him once he learned these skills.
"I’m busy."
She looked at the sky and completely lost her interest in continuing the game with him. She turned and walked directly down the mountain.
"Hey —— just one time, one more time. What do you say?"
He quickly picked up the game and hurriedly caught up with Flossie Wright. As he spoke, he immediately changed his attitude, switching from his previous anger and dissatisfaction to a face filled with flattery. His eagerness to please was like meeting an ancestor.
If Becca Reyes saw his attitude, although she wouldn’t be shocked, she would certainly ponder what bewitching soup Flossie Wright had fed him.
"How many times is this now?"
Just as he got close to her, Flossie Wright abruptly paused, her piercing gaze causing Stuart Weston to cool his hot-blooded momentum instantly.
Stuart blinked his eyes, finally sobering up.
Unconsciously, it seemed like he had lost quite a few times...
So, without waiting for his response, Flossie Wright bypassed him and continued down the mountain. Stuart Weston stood scratching his head, not daring to provoke Flossie Wright and decided to dutifully carry the game down the mountain after her.
However, in the following days, Stuart Weston never questioned Flossie Wright again. Instead, he earnestly studied and occasionally practiced with Calvin Ramos to improve his tactical skills. Becca Reyes found this change rather marvelous.
Within just over ten days of training time, each team was giving it their all, afraid of being left behind.
Even the residents of the training ground continued to pull all-nighters. As for Flossie Wright, she continued to maintain her usual routine, only now passing the shopping missions to Nigel Ferguson. She took pictures of the things that needed to be bought the night before and sent them to Nigel, who naturally sent someone to deliver the items the next day. Occasionally, some nutritional products were included.
Flossie didn’t say much and accepted them all.
During the spare time created by no longer needing to go shopping, Flossie mainly focused on practicing hand-to-hand combat. Becca Reyes and Rowdy Brightwill would bring people over to spar with her when they were free. Even without company, she’d practice on wooden stakes. Most of her time outside of Glenn Hutchinson’s training plan was spent practicing combat. The intensity of her practice made Becca Reyes and Rowdy Brightwill avoid her for fear of being dragged in.
Finally, the much-anticipated day of the exercise arrived.
This was a military exercise involving multiple branches of the military. Its scale was left to the imagination of these new recruits.
Actually, they shouldn’t have participated in this exercise because, in any case, they were not qualified. But after discussions from the top, this exercise was turned into an assessment. In the exercise, their abilities would be tested. Nobody knew the exact rules, but they all understood this assessment would not be simple and it wouldn’t be enough to just pass a few courses. Many inner qualities would also be tested.
Many of them would be eliminated.
The night before the exercise, most of the recruits were so excited that they couldn’t fall asleep. Some were training late into the night, some were tossing and turning in bed, and others were huddled in small groups discussing things keenly.
No one was looking after them because, during this period, apart from the inspection team, really no one cared about them.
In this inevitably restless night, the cooking class was no exception.
In the middle of the night, not long after the lights had been extinguished, Flossie Wright was dragged out by Becca Reyes. They walked all the way to the vegetable field at the back of the mountain before Becca finally stopped.
"What are we doing?"
In the bright moonlight, Flossie Wright sat directly on the ridge, with one hand propping up her chin, listlessly looking at the thriving vegetables in the field.
It was so late, she had just fallen asleep, and Becca Reyes dragged her out. She would be strange if she was energetic now.
Becca Reyes sat beside her, hugging her knees, her voice very calm, "I can’t sleep."

Flossie gave her a silent eye-roll. Wrapping herself tighter in the military coat she had on, she braced against the night chill.
Yet, she didn’t head back.
After a while, Becca nudged Flossie’s elbow.
Flossie half-opened her eyes, showing no interest in interacting with Becca.
"I just confessed to Calvin Ramos again."
